Early this morning Mr. Andy Chan Ho-tin, Convener of the Hong Kong National Party, was arrested at the Hong Kong Airport on his way to Tokyo to speak at Japanese CPAC 2019. Although various reasons for the arrest have been reported in the media, it is clear this is an unjustified arrest and a suppression of freedom. Therefore, the Japanese Conservative Union (JCU) demands the immediate release of Mr. Chan.
The Japanese Conservative Union (JCU), as the executive secretariat of J-CPAC2019, invited Mr. Chan to speak at the conference through Mr. Hidetoshi Ishii, Vice President of Free Indo Pacific Alliance. Mr. Chan was scheduled to speak at a session entitled “For Liberty of Hong Kong” on September 1st.
JCU strongly opposes unjust arrest, which suppresses freedom of individuals and speech, and demands the release of all democratic activists, in addition to Mr. Chan, who are unfairly held in Hong Kong.
